“The Kids We Lose” is a moving film about the human side of being a child or student with behavioral challenges, and the struggles faced by parents, educators, staff in facilities, mental health clinicians, and law enforcement professionals — trying to ensure that these kids receive the help they need. The documentary is intended to heighten awareness and galvanize people to advocate for change in our treatment institutions. The current state of hopelessness, misery, and frustration for many institutionalized children is a palpable entity, and when society turns its back on its most vulnerable members, we all lose.

This film is a collaboration of Lone Wolf Productions and Lives in the Balance founded by child psychologist Dr. Ross Greene – an organization which aims to foster collaboration and empathy, transform lives, and inspire change for all children (especially the most vulnerable). Lives in the Balance strives to provide vital, accessible resources and programs to caregivers of behaviorally challenging kids; to bring the plight of these kids into the public consciousness, to address the systemic issues that cause many of these kids to slip through the cracks, and to promote parenting and disciplinary practices that foster the better side of human nature in all children. Circle your calendar for Thursday February 27 at 7:00 pm at Glenbard South High School, when Dr Greene will join us at the Glenbard Parent Series for a discussion of his books”” The Explosive Child” and “Lost at School: Why Our Kids with Behavioral Challenges are Falling Through the Cracks” and don’t miss the January 16 documentary film screening.
