Participants will be introduced to the principles behind Social Thinking. Discussion will center around ideas of how to implement strategies in small groups as well as classrooms.?

Participants will discuss the differences in planning for emergent and conventional readers with complex communication needs. Instructional strategies in the areas of phonemic awareness, writing, comprehension will be demonstrated and discussed to meet the literacy needs of AAC users.
Participants will learn about the steps involved in?an?Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) Evaluation.? Evaluation tools?will be explored?such as Every Move Counts, Communication Matrix and the?Functional?Communication Profile.? In?addition?the concept of feature matching will be addressed as well as how the SETT (Student, Environment, Task, Tools) framework supports an AAC evaluation.
