Here we go, the first SPAM of the year, this time courtesy of Melinda Smith!

OK so this one looks kind of obvious but let’s list the immediate signs that something is phishy:

  1. Unfamiliar sender.
  2. Email is asking for something (appearing to be an invoice).
  3. Link in the email (we’ll look at this in a second).
  4. No personal context–they didn’t greet the recipient by name or provide any other clues that this is an interaction she should know about.

Now let’s example that link. We will not click on the linkInstead, let’s just hover our mouse cursor over it and see what appears.

Not the same! This is definitely dangerous and we should report it as SPAM. Thanks, Melinda!
